Qualifications:
While it is not required that the Resident Adviser be a college graduate, understanding and first-hand knowledge of the current scene in higher education and of the young adults are important. Desirable personal characteristics include being able to keep up with an active pace, having good judgment, tact, patience, a sense of humor, an objective viewpoint, and the ability to be a good listener and to relate with students in relevant terms.

General Responsibilities
A. The Resident Adviser serves in an advisory capacity, aims toward developing a friendly relationship with individuals and the group as a whole, and works with the student officers and governing councils in advising various areas of the program. This may include areas that require social skills such as planning social programs, and assisting with financial management and operation.

B. The Resident Adviser is employed by Eta Alpha Building Association of Chi Omega to assist the individual students and the group as a whole in the following areas:

1. Program
 Cooperates and works with the undergraduate living group’s Executive Council in establishing programs an interpreting and implementing University policies.
 Promotes an atmosphere in the group conducive to personal growth
 Maintains a relationship with the group which will promote a healthy, cooperative climate
 At all times, encourages responsible conduct in the living group, fosters an awareness of University regulations, assists in developing the general cultural standards of the living group, and always works in cooperation with the living group offices thereof.
 Encourages and stimulates the leadership and initiative of the living group officers, recognizing that the living group is an organization of self-government within a democratic framework of ideals.
 Encourages scholastic achievement
 Understands policies as outlined in the Resident Adviser manual prepared by the office of student services, the OSU student handbook, and in appropriate instances, the individual group adviser's manual
 In those cases where conduct and social problems become severe, the Resident Adviser shall have the responsibility of referring such cases to the Executive Council or appropriate University officials in assisting them in their resolution.
 Be aware of the financial situation of the living group and of the physical condition of the Chapter House; and bring to the attention of the property Corporation Board member those substandard conditions which may endanger the health and/or safety of the living group.
 Serves as a liaison between the living group and the Corporation Board members
 Attend all regularly scheduled meetings of Resident Adviser unless excused by the office of student services, and cooperated in all special requests (records, reports, etc.) subject to approval of Eta Alpha Building Association of Chi Omega made by the office of student services.

2. Responsibility to the University
 Meets individually with staff members of the office of the Dean of students when requested, and keeps all necessary records.
 Participates in in-service training sessions and other special meetings concerning the position of Resident Adviser
 Be present at times when major events take place (Beaver Open House, Formal Recruitment Week, Mom’s Weekend, Dad’s Weekend etc.), when requested by the residents of the group, at meals and generally to be available to the living group.
 Report unusual and/or significant events to the appropriate authorities
 Act as official representative of the University and the living group.
 The Resident Adviser is expected to know and interpret policies and regulations to students and their parents/legal guardians.

3. Interpersonal Relationships
 Keeps confidences, practices fairness, firmness, and consistency
 Is well acquainted with each member of the group
 Serves as a resource person and refers students to persons or agencies on campus, or in the community as the need arises.
 Is available for consultation with individuals as they desire
 Encourages individual development of responsibility, integrity, and the ability to make wise and considered judgments

4. Group Discipline
 In instances where violations of the University or living group regulations are apparent, the Resident Adviser should refer the cases to the Executive Council of the living group or appropriate University officials and assist them in their resolution.
 The Resident Adviser should see that incident reports are properly filed with the Dean of Students offices as needed.

5. Additional Responsibilities
 Assumes responsibility for the purchase of supplies and provisions
 Supervises the Cook and the operation of the kitchen to the extent delegated by the Eta Alpha Building Association of Chi Omega
 Employs and supervises kitchen helpers and dining room attendants.
 Supervises the cleaning of the Chapter House and performs the hiring of the house cleaning.
 Collects and disburses monies and maintains records of the same.
 Assists with the maintenance of the facility and equipment and contracts repairs persons to keep the property in good repair
 Conducts fire and safety inspections as required and recommended.
